1. Ultrasonic Liquid Particle Count (LPC)
Liquid Particle count tests have been operated on a component injected with Nanocyl Carbon Nanotubes in Polycarbonate. The same tests have been run, for comparison, on two parts injected with neat polycarbonate and carbon fiber-filled polycarbonate.
The filled parts have been loaded with CNTs and carbon fibers in order to reach a surface resistivity of 10^4Ohm/s. This result has been reached with 3% of Nanocyl NC7000 and 10% of carbon fibers, using ASTM measurement standards.
2. Outgassing
Nanocyl Carbon Nanotube products are characterized by a low level of outgassing and therefore have a high chemical cleanliness. The highest measured outgassing is smaller than 98ng/g. This amount is far below HDD producers’ requirements for HGA and HAS trays.
3. Ionic and Metallic Contamination
Nanocyl has run ionic and metallic contamination tests on its CNTs-PC compounds, the PC virgin resin and on the carbon fiber- filled one. The aim was to discriminate the exact source of potential contamination. The results below show that Nanocyl Carbon Nanotube parts are not a source of contamination.
- Cl, NO3, SO3, Amine, Silicon Oil: ~ 0 ng/cm²
- Nonvolatile Residue: 108 ng/cm²
Nonvolatile residue is also well below HDD producers’ requirements for HGA and HAS trays.
